Students will work cooperatively in groups and respect each others presentations.

Procedures:
Opening- We are going to review some things that we have learned about advertising.
In groups chosen by sticks fill out a worksheet of discussion questions. Only one student has to write down a few short answers, I want you to talk about each question though.
Worksheet has:
While students are discussing, teacher puts up the strategy signs on the board and the graph we made from the homework data collection which shows when most kids in the class watch tv. Come back together after 5-10 minutes. Now we know that lots of decisions go into how a product is advertised to be sold we are going to pretend that you are an advertiser. Your job is to create an ad for a product of your choice (if you get stuck come talk to me). You are to try to persuade your audience to buy it. You have to use 2-3 of the strategies we have talked about (see the board) Do this with one or two partners or you may choose to do it alone. After 3 days we are going to share our ads with the class and the class will try to guess which strategies you used to sell your ad.
Today we are going to have a few minutes to meet with our groups and think about what product you would like to sell and who you are going to try to sell it to. Tomorrow I will have a few video cameras for groups making tv commercials, tape recorders for radio ads and lots of posterboard if you or your group want to make a cereal box ad, a billboard or a magazine ad.
Have students choose their own partners (teacher makes changes if necessary) and hand each group a sheet with directions:
Pick a product
Think about who your target audience is going to be
How can you advertise so that your audience will want to buy your product (remember to pick 2-3 strategies)
Plan your ad
Create!
Allow for two or three full class periods for students to make their ads. During presentations have students come to the front to show their ad. Then the class guesses what their product is, who their target audience was and what strategies they used to sell their product. Teacher asks follow up questions to the presenting group like:
Assessments:
Informal- Teacher observation of cooperative group work and discussion.
Formal- Assess ads created by students to make sure they are trying to sell a product, have a specific target audience in mind, and have used 2-3 common advertising strategies in their ad.
