Mission Statement

Through this website, we hope to inspire fellow teachers to create meaningful and relevant media and social constructivist centered lessons that will expose children to the diverse world around them.

Unit Plans

Holly's Unit
A News Unit created for second graders.

Lyndsay's Unit
My media unit is designed to promote media awareness to second and third grade students.  My lessons are about discovering what advertising is, examining strategies that advertisers use to sell products and services, and experimenting with how advertisements affect some of our decisions.  Click on the link above to check it out.

Sunshine's Unit
My unit is designed for a K-1 group and it focuses on Power & Justice in the context of social construction. It is designed to begin at the start of the school year, and continue up until Thanksgiving. I am committed to finding ways to explore these broad and complex themes at the start of a child's formal education. I believe that it is far easier to learn to think critically at a young age than it is to move away from the role of passive learner, once established. Please select the link above to view the five lesson plans within my unit, as well as resources I used.

Stacy's Unit
I wrote my unit for a class of kindergartners, focusing in on the advertising aspect of the media. I found that many students are unaware of the ads that bombard them every day, so my goal was to promote awareness as well as creating smart consumers.

Molly's Unit

This media unit is designed to educate second and third graders on local, national and global current events. Through research of these events, the students will gain a better understanding of the media and they will be able to use this information to create a classroom newspaper.

Field Trip to Madison's CW TV Station

As part of our Social Issues project, we took a trip to a local television station to gain a better understanding of behind the scenes action and to gather ideas for future classroom field trips.  Click here to view a more detailed account of our trip!
